"Hurricane Hugo (1989) destroyed the Anglican church in Montserrat months before I was due to get married there. So I moved my entire wedding to St Kitts, and as I was marrying a member of the RC church, we got married at the Co-Cathedral in Feb 1990. As an Anglican, I went to Father Smithen and asked him to be part of my ceremony and he readily agreed. I then served with him at St George's ( as a choir member and reader) until his departure for Antigua. He will always hold a special place in my heart. My husband and I often met up with him in Nevis and we offer to his family our sincerest sympathies. May he rest in eternal peace."
